This section contains information that will help you in your search for work:
• how to write resumes and cover letters
• how to prepare for an interview
• links to job search sites
• information for immigrants

An important part of looking for work is having the right skills for the job.  Essential skills are the foundation for learning. They help people participate more fully at work, home and in the community.  When essential skills are addressed, training can be more effective.

Essential Skills are the skills needed for work, learning and life. They provide the foundation for learning all other skills and enable people to evolve with their jobs and adapt to workplace change.

Through extensive research, the Government of Canada and other national and international agencies have identified and validated nine Essential Skills:
• Reading Text
• Document Use
• Numeracy
• Writing
• Oral Communication
• Working with Others
• Continuous Learning
• Thinking Skills
• Computer Use

These skills are used in nearly every occupation and throughout daily life in different ways and at different levels of complexity. Please visit the HRSDC website to learn more!
